I stare out my back window
at our old apartment now.
I place myself in our bedroom,
where our shapes remain tangled
in sheets at night in my mind.

I walk past the front porch,
where we were once spectators.
I am the spectacle now [— to be
witnessed from the brown chair].
I recall how we moved in the dark,
pretending to be our better halves.

I weep alone in the darkness
of my lonely solitude
as the words echo forth
